Now AT72-600, featuring several improvements after ATR72-500 and the first deliveries in 2010, is quite established not only in South East Asia but also in Myanmar. However, some Carriers like Yangon Airways are still using ATR72-212. ATR72-500 can also be seen in other Domestic Airlines, such as Air KBZ. The run way length in Myanmar reflected the issues of utilizing ATR72-500, ATR72-600 planes, more suitable for Regional and Medium Range. We also noted that ATR72-600 is the lowest seat per mile cost on 72 seat segment, comparing to others.
We learn that Air Bagan and Asian Wings Airlines merged. Asian Wings is only flying as Operating Carrier YJ/W9. Although different carriers are using varieties of airliners, ATR72, twin-engine turboprop, is the most being utilized which is efficient for short-haul.
Not only ATRs in Myanmar, some Domestic Carriers are operating Boeing 737-800, Embraer-190 and CRJ.
All Domestic Carriers are focused to operate Tour Destinations such as Nyaung U, Mandalay and Heho firstly.
Then they plan to expand new potential destinations Thandwe. Sittway, Putao, Loikaw etc. Sometimes target for Locals.
